Summary:
The Medical Receptionist position provides the first and last in-person experience patients and visitors have with the medical practice.
This role focuses on maintaining a warm and welcoming atmosphere while ensuring all required information is collected; including PHI and monetary collections.
Upon completion of care, the Medical Receptionist facilitates continued care by scheduling referral appointments and return visits.
In addition, the Medical Receptionist maintains the medical record by uploading all indicated documents to the patients' records.
Primary Job
Responsibilities:
Scan and categorize primary or supporting documents or records in the patient's medical record.
Answer and appropriately direct or respond to all incoming calls, faxes, emails, or other forms of correspondence.
Log and submit referral metrics daily.
Answer general questions regarding provider referral recommendations.
Obtain assistance from a medical professional when the scope of questions exceeds the knowledge base.
Perform general office duties, such as answering telephones, taking dictation, or completing insurance forms.
Greet and log in patients arriving at the office or clinic.
Schedule appointments for patients.
Contact medical facilities or departments to schedule patients for tests or admission.
Inventory and submit orders for medical, lab, or office supplies or equipment.
Keep financial records or perform other bookkeeping duties, such as handling credit or collections or mailing monthly statements to patients.
Determine out-of-pocket responsibilities of patients or responsible parties and collect the amount as determined.
Research and plan for upcoming clinic days to promote the acquisition of missing items within the medical record of scheduled patients and promote concise sharing of information with medical professionals.

Experience:
Prior medical office or setting experience preferred but not required.
